Jeff Harmes was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Minnesota before moving to Eugene, Oregon to attend the University of Oregon School of Law. Mr. Harmes practiced in Portland for 17 years before moving to Seattle in 2000 to manage the intellectual property group at the Seattle office of Gray Cary/DLA Piper.
Mr. Harmes has been a boating enthusiast from an early age. From 1990 to 1992 he took a break from practicing law to sail the South Pacific in his 35-foot sailboat. The voyage included stops in Mexico, the Marquesas Islands, the Tuamotu Archipelago, the Society Islands, Tonga, Fiji, and New Zealand. He currently gets out on the water in his 19-foot rigid inflatable boat, which he uses for family outings, boat camping, catching Dungeness crab, and his favorite sport, scuba diving.
Mr. Harmes enjoys mountain climbing, and has reached the summit of Mount Rainier twice. He also enjoys skiing, hiking, and riding his Yamaha FJR 1300 motorcycle.
